Can people please explain why diaries on dead soldiers are treated as Holy Cows on Daliy Kos?
These diaries claim in the most maudlin tones to be in support of the troops who have died, yet they do not mention a single criticism of the Bush doctrine that murdered the soldiers. That is not support for the troops; it is support for the lie about the war. If looked at objectively these diaries are from people who meet the definition of a troll because they are essentially pro-war diaries because they support the "my country right or wrong" and "love it or leave" attitudes. Yet it is those who dare to criticise this jingoism who are labeled the trolls.
And when I or others try to point out their hypocrisy on the troops -- that their wishes that the dead troops "rest in peace" because "they died for us" only hides the fact that the soldiers did not fight for peace nor did they die for us but for the corporate profiteers -- we are banned and our comments are removed.
Why are pro-war posts in the guise of so-called "Prayers" or memorials for fallen soldiers allowed immunity from criticism? They present nothing but Republican style support for the troops by supporitng their activities in Iraq and Afghanistan as if the soldiers weren't sent there by a madman in the White House?
Here's my response to one such post that I made which was summarily removed because criticism is censored. I lost my mojo over this but that is only a small personal irritant in the big picture of the hypocrisy of pro-war posts getting a free ride from criticism. The writer of the diary wrote a poem which is in bold below and my responses are in the block quotes.
A Small Prayer for Those who have Fallen
He was a soldier
Brainwashed through and through
He will be a soldier in God’s heavenly legions
Only if he can change the hearts of the fools who continue to send soldiers like he was into the demon grip of a war on sanity.
He was a defender of America
Only in his delusions because America was never attacked or even remotely threatened
He will now defend us all from above
Not if he continues ot be brainwashed in heaven.
He fought threats against our nation
Threats only in the insane imaginings of people brain washed by the fascist propaganda
He will fight heavenly demons to keep us all safe
No, because he couldn't fight the Earthly demons in the White House who put us in jeapordy
He protected children he did not know
Protecting children with the left hand and killing them with the right hand,
He defended a people not his own
He defended the wrong people for the wrong reasons
He died for us
No he did not die for "us" nor for "U.S." He only died for profits in the pockets of the war merchants and oilmen
But
He lived for us too
Sadly he only lived for a delusion of freedom created by a lifetime of propaganda through commercial advertising
He sacrificed for us
No, he sacrificed for himself and his delusion that what he was doing was for others when it was only for his self-image as a do-gooder
And
He gave us such pride
If we were as delusional as he was, otherwise he brough us only shame by taking the name and reputation of the USA into the gutter of immoral killing and illegal invasion of another nation.
He fought for us
He was neither fighting for us, nor for U.S. but for the oilmen and corporate profiteers.
And
He never showed fear
Because he was brainwashed that he souldn't show it, when fear was the human reaction that would have been sane.
He has departed from this temporal earth
No he hasn't departed from earth, he has returned to earth.
But
He will never leave our hearts, minds and souls
he was not even in our hearts minds and souls when alive otherwise we would have done something to stop the madness of the war
Rest in peace soldier
you didn't give peace to others you killed them
You have served bravely and gave pride to us all
Not pride to us all, only to those of us who are blind and brainwashed. You shamed the rest of us by letting your body be used for killing others and hiding your conscience deep away
Rest peace brother
Do not rest but haunt those of us who remain alive in order that we may stop this madness of a phony war on fake terror
You have honorably defended our country
You havn't defended our country and you know it, so please keep your pain in the minds of the living and tell let them you will not be at rest until this war is ended and reparations are made for the dead needlessly killed
Rest in peace fellow countrymen
No do not rest untill peace comes
You have preserved the last best hope on earth
Your life has wasted the dream of the last best hope on earth and you have violated every principle of democracy by your cruel invasion of a foreign land that was never a threat to the USA. So to preserve the last best hope, keep haunting the dreams of rabid patriots who think that soldiers can do no wrong and that presidents should be obeyed when they are as insane as Roman Emperors
May you live eternally in the hands of God
Since you turned your back on God by becoming a willing killing tool of the plutocratic fascists of America, may you find the way to atone for your murdering ways and live eternally in the hands of those who will be rebuilding Iraq in the years to come.
Anyone who wants to know the truth about the U.S.A.'s phony wars needs to do some reading. I suggest starting with the online versions of Gen. Smedley Butler's War Is A Racket
There are two versions on the internet, the book or booklet version in five chapters and a shorter version which is an excerpt from his national speaking tour on the same topic.
'War Is a Racket'
Excerpt from a speech delivered in 1933 by General Smedley Darlington Butler, USMC. General Butler was the recipient of two Congressional Medals of Honor - one of only two Marines so honored.
War is just a racket. A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of people. Only a small inside group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few at the expense of the masses. . . .
There isn't a trick in the racketeering bag that the military gang is blind to. It has its "finger men" to point out enemies, its "muscle men" to destroy enemies, its "brain men" to plan war preparations, and a "Big Boss" Super-Nationalistic-Capitalism.
It may seem odd for me, a military man to adopt such a comparison. Truthfulness compels me to. I spent thirty- three years and four months in active military service as a member of this country's most agile military force, the Marine Corps. I served in all commissioned ranks from Second Lieutenant to Major-General. And during that period, I spent most of my time being a high class muscle- man for Big Business, for Wall Street and for the Bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism.
I suspected I was just part of a racket at the time. Now I am sure of it. Like all the members of the military profession, I never had a thought of my own until I left the service. My mental faculties remained in suspended animation while I obeyed the orders of higher-ups. This is typical with everyone in the military service.
I helped make Mexico, especially Tampico, safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefits of Wall Street. The record of racketeering is long. I helped purify Nicaragua for the international banking house of Brown Brothers in 1909-1912 (where have I heard that name before?). I brought light to the Dominican Republic for American sugar interests in 1916. In China I helped to see to it that Standard Oil went its way unmolested.
During those years, I had, as the boys in the back room would say, a swell racket. Looking back on it, I feel that I could have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents. . . .
The soldiers in Iraq, including the soldier dying there, are there, like Butler was in Mexico, to make it safe for American Oil interests.
Then perhaps they can read The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder by Vincent Bugliosi, and instead of offering reality denying prayers for the dead get a little angry about why the troops have been murdered by an insanly greedy and insane president!
